Bills Blog: 2018 Week #1 Report

week 1 CHEER IMG 8776 700

The Bills program was pleased to kick-off the 2018 season with 4 victories and 2 losses.  We were also very proud to see our girls from the Buffalo Grove Bills Cheerleading Squad out doing their thing! Way to go girls!

We wish to thank all of our volunteers and sponsors for the 2018 Season

This week's blog is sponsored by Spina Oral, Maxillofacial & Dental Implant Surgery.

Concession Stand: It was so fantastic to see everyone out at the field this weekend. We are offering some new menu items, which were a hit. We are now serving grilled chicken. We’re also serving bananas, apples, string cheese, apple sauce, protein bars, Uncrustables, and more candy choices. Our concessions would not be successful without our amazing volunteers. A HUGE thank you to Rick Herrejon and Charles Thorndyke and Aki Youkhanna for giving me a break and taking over the grill for a bit. Our volunteers this weekend were STELLAR, THANK YOU. Sasha Fedorov, Jenny Fawcett and Tran McGrath were rock stars. A huge shout out to Junior Martinez and O’Tooles for getting so much donated to the concession stand.

Lightweight | Hooge

Bills win on the road!

Lightweight= 30 vs  Grayslake= 0

It was a great start of the season for the boys. From the moment we started warming up you could hear the thunder and crispness of the team. It was an incredible sound to hear the team firing as one. Offense set the tone by a 2 play drive ending in a long run by Zach Goldman for a quick 6-0 lead. The DF took over from there not allowing the Greyslake Colts get started. They were relentless all day continually pushing the Colts back over and over throughout the game. Isaiah Diaz came out of his shell and rampaged through the Colts with no remorse. Fareed and Patrick welcome to Bills football starting the season by getting involved in tackles. The team defense was incredible all around well done.

All the running backs ran the ball hard and scored at will. We had 5 touchdowns on offense and only 1 player had 2 touchdowns. Several different players got to run the ball during the game to start the season. No matter where a player was asked to play this week everyone had a chance to get quality time in on offense or defense. We are very proud of the team effort. It was great to see everyone work hard and take it to Greyslake to start the season. Great job Jake and Charlie leading the offense and Daniel Y running the Defense.

We have a tough challenge next week on the road to North Side. We have a lot of work to do to be ready for our next pay day.

Well Done on week one!

Middleweight Gold | Sibo

Bills win at home!

Middleweight Gold= 24 vs Elgin=0

The 2018 season kicked off in the heat on Sunday and Sibo’s Big 10 Middle team caught fire in the 2nd half scoring 3 times on their way to 24-0 victory over the Elgin Bears. The boys dug deep and left it all on the field. Game highlights were:

• Donovan Robinson going for 3 TD’s along with some long runs
• Big Ben Fawcett to Griff Suren for 30 yards
• Jack “The Trucker” McGrath flat out running over Elgin for the TD
• Interceptions by McGrath and Baker. Baker also with the fumble recover
• Defense with 3 turnovers and 2 Sacks
• O Line opening holes all day for Robinson, McGrath and De Leon. Offense work without Paulauskas, Abuaita, Osborne, Branas and Nelson doing their jobs.
• Christopher “Fatman” Thorndyke in the Elgin backfield all day

Middleweight Black | Schumi

Bills lose on the road.

 Middleweight Black= 0 vs Crystal Lake= 13

We finally started our journey as a family on the field against a good opponent, the Crystal Lake Raiders. Our offensive line started pushing right out of the gate while the backs followed their blocks through the holes, with a full head of steam. On the defensive side, they battled all game, and fought their tails off! Some adjustments were made and that held the Raiders offense to very little in the second half. Onto the next one, B4L!

Offensive MVP - Jayden Palzet #11
Defensive MVP - Jack Palzet #13

BILLS feather week 1Featherweight | Delevitt

Bills win at home!

Featherweight= 26 vs Elgin= 0

The Bills Featherweight Big 10 Team has been working hard in practice for the past four weeks, and it all started to pay off at their home opener on Sunday, as they win in convincing fashion over Elgin, 26-0.  It was a total team effort, as everyone contributed to the win.  The offense was firing on all cylinders, and it all started in the trenches with the offensive line. Sebastian Crew, Brayden Roth, David Graham, Ty Bauer, and Blake Strauss, battled hard against the Elgin defense, and gave the offense time to pass, and opened up running lanes for the backs.  Ilan Guzman took a pitch, and rumbled 30 yards for the touchdown to open up the scoring.  Dylan Fawcett turned on the jets, and found the endzone twice, on runs of 25 and 30 yards.  Paul Holstein provided the Sportscenter Play of the Day, when he pulled an Odell Beckham Jr., and somehow reached up and made a one handed catch on a long pass from Aidan Albrecht, and then raced into the end zone for a 50 yard touchdown.  Da Da Da, Da Da Da.  Aidan Albrecht hit Brody Delevitt in the corner of the end zone to convert the extra point, and Albrecht also took one on his own into the end zone, on another extra point conversion.  The defense was fierce all day, pitching their first shutout of the season, by stuffing the Elgin offense.  The defensive ends, Ryan Harris and Blake Strauss,  could not be stopped, and spent the entire afternoon making plays in the Elgin backfield.  Braden Bilotta and Levi Schwartz each came up with big tackles, stopping the Elgin ball carrier in his tracks.  The Bills Feather Big 10 Team protected their home field, and made it a fun day for all the players, coaches, and families!!  They'll get back to work this week, in preparation for their next game against Grant.

Bantam | Duff

Bills lose at home.

Bantam= 0 vs Elgin=24

Bills Bantam took one on the chin this past weekend. Despite tough play from both the offensive and defensive lines, Elgin was able to stymie our offense, and score 3 times on us. The boys never gave up, and made a very tough last effort, almost stopping Elgin's final touchdown. Jackson Carrigan was in Elgin's backfield all day, including breaking up a PAT.

Great runs from Matthew Ravenscraft and Dylan Nelson, who also made a great tackle, to save a touchdown. Bowie Richmond and Eli Sigal playing tough, covering several different positions for injured players. We faced a stacked team, with a small roster, and didn't lose heart. Heart can't be taught; everything else can. We'll learn from what happened today, and be that much stronger and better next week.
